
French Olympiad 2023
A national French language competition called French Olympiad is proposed to all the students learning French in Indian Schools.
- Promotion of French at all levels in secondary schools
- Development and encouragement of interest in French language and culture among students.
French Olympiad is open to all secondary and senior secondary schools affiliated to Indian school boards.
French Olympiad is conducted as an online examination on E&B’s platform for this purpose.
French Olympiad has two levels of examinations
- Entry level examination (ELE)
- National level examination (NLE)
Entry level examination (ELE) will be conducted at the school level to select the best French learners in each school.
Entry level exams will be conducted at three different levels:
- Level 1: Elementary Level (for class 5-6),
- Level 2: Advanced Level (for class 7-8),
- Level 3: Proficiency Level (for class 9-10)
- Entry level exams will be in the form of multiple choice questions.
- Time duration of an ELE examination is 30 minutes after which the candidate can not submit further answers.
- ELE is conducted as an online examination on E&B’s platform for this purpose.
- Date of the ELE is fixed in coordination with the participant school teacher (in case of school groups).
FEE:
A fee will be charged per participant for ELE and for NLE respectively. (Refer to section “Participation Fee”)
Practice Material:
- Online reference practice material with sample questions will be provided free of cost to all the participant students.
- Three online practice papers will be provided to each participant (unlimited attempts).
- One Pre-Final Exam may be conducted (Max. 01 (One) attempt).
Online practice material will be provided for:
- Elementary Level (for class 5-6),
- Advanced Level (for class 7-8),
- Proficiency Level (for class 9-10) respectively.
On the completion of the Entry level exams (ELE):
- All the student participants will receive a French Olympiad e-Certificate of participation.
- Ranks will be given to those students who will secure more than 60% marks in ELE.
- Only Rank holder students in ELE will be allowed to participate in the National Level Exam (NLE).
- All the material for the French Olympiad will be prepared and provided by E&B through its online platform.
- Only candidates having participated in ELE and having obtainted more than 60% marks in ELE are eligible to participate in NL
National level examinations (NLE) will be conducted to select the best candidates among the participating Indian schools.
National level exams will be conducted for different levels:
- Elementary Level (Level 1 for class 5-6),
- Advanced Level (Level 2 for class 7-8),
- Proficiency Level (Level 3 for class 9-10)
- National level exams will be in the form of multiple choice questions.

- NLE is conducted as an online examination on E&B’s platform for this purpose.
- The questions may also be from outside the practice material provided by E&B.
- Only candidates having participated in ELE and having obtainted more than 60% marks in ELE are eligible to participate in NLE.
Participation Fee:
A fee will be charged per student for the National level exam. (Refer to section “Participation Fee”)

All the material for FO will be prepared and provided by E&B through its online platform or through e-mail.

- Questions may also be from outside the practice material provided by E&B.
- Online Practice Papers will be provided to each participant.
Online practice material will be provided for:
- Elementary Level (for class 5-6),
- Advanced Level (for class 7-8),
- Proficiency Level (for class 9-10) respectively.
On the completion of the National level exams (NLE):
- All the student participants will receive a French Olympiad e-Certificate of participation.
Prizes on the completion of the National Level Examination (NLE) of the French Olympiad 2023 will be awarded as follows:
- Elementary Level (Classes 5 & 6):
- First, Second and Third Prize
- Advanced Level (Classes 7 & 8):
- First, Second and Third Prize
- Proficiency Level (Classes 9 & 10):
- First, Second and Third Prize
PRIZES 2023
- Three First Prize Winners of NLE will be awarded with a cheque of Rs. 10,000/- each (Rupees Ten Thousand only).
- Three Second Prize Winners of NLE will be awarded with a cheque of Rs. 5,000/- each (Rupees Five Thousand only).
- Three Third Prize Winners of NLE will be awarded a cheque of Rs. 2,500/- each (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred only).
Declaration of results:
Results for the national winners will be declared by the expert committee of E&B two weeks after all the schools/participants have completed the examination. The participants and the school authorities will be informed of the winners by e-mail.
Selection of winners:
The candidate who will obtain the highest score in the shortest span of time will be declared the winner in its respective category.
In case of two or more candidates scoring same overall result in the NLE, the expert committee will consider the scores in the following order to decide the winners:
- the scores in the French language part of NLE examination.
- the one who finished the exam earlier (quick scorer) will be considered higher scorer.
- the candidate who has given less number of wrong answers shall be considered higher scorer.
- the score obtained in the NLE pre-exam practice paper conducted online.
The result of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidates.
General terms and conditions:
- The French Olympiad is open to all Indian secondary and Senior Secondary Schools.
- It is open to all students enrolled in all Indian secondary and Senior Secondary Schools.
- It is open to all students except students having French nationality.
- French Olympiad may be conducted by the school on any suitable day during the dates indicated earlier for the same in this document, provided that the slot chosen is available.
- Schedule of exams may be modified in case of National/ State Holidays/ Govt. restrictions/ Technical issue.
- Ranks will be given to those students who will secure more than 60% marks in ELE.
- Only Rank holder students in ELE will be allowed to participate in the National Level Exam.
- Candidates have to mark the correct answer during the online exam even if there was a printing mistake in the practice book for the same question.
- Employees of E&B and their immediate family members cannot participate in this contest.
- E&B shall be responsible for this competition.
- All decisions of E&B Expert Panel will be considered as final.
- All disputes subject to Delhi jurisdiction only.
E&B reserves the right to circulate the images/photos/testimonials and details of the winners and participants on its different websites, brochures and social media networks for the benefit of general public.
Fee
Participation Fee for ELE:
Rs. 350/- per participant (exclusive of 12% GST) = Rs. 392/- in total per participant.
Participation fee for NLE:
Rs. 450/- per participant (exclusive of 12% GST) = Rs. 504/- in total per participant.
The taxation is liable to modify as per Govt. regulations.
French Olympiad Syllabus
Following is the broad guideline for the syllabus of the French Olympiad for different levels. However, the recommended books for each level, indicated in the description below, should be considered for the detailed syllabus of the exams.

Entry Level Examination (ELE):
